My toddler won’t sing along or do the actions. Is that normal?
Usually, yes. Many toddlers watch and listen for weeks before they join in, then surprise you by doing it alone later. Watching closely is taking part.
What helps
Keep singing without asking them to perform. Pause just before a word they know, like “spi…”, and wait a moment. Leave out one action and look puzzled. Children often can’t resist fixing a grown-up’s mistake.
When to ask for advice
One rhyme doesn’t tell you much. If you are worried about how your child is talking, understanding you or copying gestures in general, raise it with your pediatrician or health visitor. Asking early is never a waste of their time, and they can check more than a song can show.
